**Monique Limón** is making history in California — not just as a trailblazing Latina leader, but as a legislator whose life and work deeply reflect the communities she serves.

Born and raised on the Central Coast, the daughter of immigrants, Limón built her career from the ground up — first as an educator mentoring students at the **University of California, Santa Barbara** and **Santa Barbara City College**, and later as a local school board member and state legislator.

In **November 2025**, her colleagues in the **California State Senate unanimously elected her President pro Tempore**, making her the **first Latina, first woman of color, and first mother to lead the Senate’s upper chamber** — one of the most powerful legislative positions in state government.
